The journey of our Bank commenced on 11th November, 1919 with headquarter at Mumbai and two branches at Zaveri Bazar and Share Bazar. Our Bank is blessed by none other than the Father of The Nation, Mahatma Gandhiji. It was a humble beginning with a profit of Rs.1,86,605 and 6 paisa. Then there was no looking back. The process of transformation of our Bank from the Union Bank of India Ltd to Union Bank of India and now as UNION BANK  as a brand name in Banking Circle in India with global presence. The profit and business volume touched Rs.1,387 crores and Rs.1,79,737 crores as on 31st March, 2008 with more than 2500 branches. Our Bank has the unique distinction of inaugurating its registered office at Mumbai in 1921. The distinctive feature of our Bank is that it has never incurred loss since inception and that we have the proud to say that our Bank is a “Scam free” bank during its 90 years of competitive banking. It will be pertinent to mention here that great bankers and visionaries namely Mr. Devji Ratanji, Mr. F.K.F. Nariman, Mr. P.F. Gutta, Mr. O. Gopalan, Mr. Raghu Raj Bhalla, Mr. Bana Paranjape, Mr. S.P. Talwar, Mr. R.R. Kumar, Mr. J.S. Bhatnagar, Mr. B.D. Dixit, Mr. A.T. Panneer Selvam, Mr. V. Leeladhar, Mr. K. Cherian Verghese had been at the helm of affairs of our Bank. We proudly remember them for their contribution in consolidating our Bank to reach the present height. We have the rare priviledge that our Bank has produced many bankers par excellence who in the past had served at the top post of IBA, and Chief Executive of many banks in our country.

At present many of the Unionites have been serving as Chairman & Managing Director and Executive Director in many banks, Deputy Governor of RBI and Chief Executive of IBA. Our Bank is now headed by Mr. M.V. Nair as Chairman and Managing Director, a versatile banker with modern out look has initiated project “Nav Nirman” to transform our Bank into World Class Technology Driven New Generation Bank. This is aiming at positioning our Bank within top three Banks in our country. In the process 100% implementation of Core Banking Solution of the branches have been taken place at a record time which is a world record. This gives us a sense of pride. The technological strength and human strength put together shall place our bank at the top slot in the banking industry. Behind this unique achievement the predominant feature is a strong understanding and cooperation between the Management and the Federation.
